2022.01.20 05:18 pickypartridge What’s the best magical realism book you’ve ever read?
I absolutely love MR novels, they make me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. I do read other genres (recently read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo as well as an awful crime novel), but nothing brings me joy like a well written MR book. I’m currently reading The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, and I’m looking for more suggestions!

2022.01.20 05:18 puma085 What do you guys think about my strategy to get into Pua
Mid to late 30s guy here from Europe (Austria). I am decent looking and not a total loser concerning the ladies. I had some sucessful encounters with them. But I am more the passsive guy and met the ladies via my friends or the workplace. But I am at a age new where my many of my friends and there friends (aka potential new partners) are either in a long term relationship or even married already.
LTR my old ways are not working anymore and I need to step up my game.
My main problem is my approach anxiety and fear of rejection. So I am planning to practise approaching woman to ask random stuff for about any stuff for about the next 6 month so i becomes natural to make a cold approach. From there I can escalate the stuff more.
I am even crazy enough to try out the cold approach practise in a foreign language. I going to be for about 3 weeks or more (depends on the travel budget and the C-Virus)) in the states within the 6 month so the the stay in the US will be within the 6 month plan for practise.
Practising approaching woman in foreign language will boast up the difficulty a bit. Which is good because it will be far away from my comfort zone. I am fluent in English enough to talk about many things but I only used English so far in business things for researching. So using English on a social level is a different thing. I also might have a few problems with some slang words I do not know but never mind it will be still a good practise.
Do you guys think 6 month is too long? I also think it might be on the longer side but I feel the more time to practise the better.
And the fear of rejection and the approach aniexity is my main flaw I want to work on. After my last breakup that was rather hard I want to move slow.
I just want to work to on myself and improve myself. In theory I am open to everything, new long term relationship, or just a casual sexual encounter but I want move for anything in hard way. I just need to on that journey and then whatever happens happens.

2022.01.20 05:18 Papa_Nurgle_84 Bioplasmosis (Tech Analysis)
| Article Collection |
Five weeks to go until my pledge is fulfilled. And this week will be a tried and true Tech Analysis, but with a twist. There are techs out there, that are exceedingly rare to see on the table. They are out of the usual way to play faction, so deep into a tree that people dont reach it, in the wrong tree that just generally is not used all that much, just very weak in effect or, as in our tech today, all of the above together. I am talking about Arborec's Bioplasmosis
At the end of the status phase, you may remove any number of infantry from planets you control and place them on 1 or more planets you control in the same or adjacent systems.
At the moment of writing (01-19-2022) Bioplasmosis has a research rate of 8.3% according to TI4 Tabletop Simulator Stats Dashboard and is last place of all faction techs. To say that this tech is rare would be an understatement. 8.3% Research rate means, that in in 100 games, you will see this tech about 7-10 times if Arborec is in play. As Arborec has (again according to TI4 Tabletop Simulator Stats Dashboard) a pickrate of 17% (5th last of all factions), you will see Bioplasmosis about every 100 to 58 games. Thats... more games then many even active players will play in many years. So if you could not remember what Bioplasmosis actually does as you read its name above, don't worry, you are probably not alone.
As you may have noticed, I always try to find something useful, some edge case, some surprise move you can do even with the most uninspiring technology. I think that I succeed most of the time, but sometimes I fail. (Damn you, Space Dock II!) To make this article a bit more interesting and more informative then "Yeah... its bad, you know?" I will try to actively find positive things about the cards I analyze.
The card itself
So what can Bioplasmosis do for me. Simple, it moves Infantry around. One system to be precise from owned planet to owned planet. And here we already see the first problem: It is specifically moving Infantry, not Ground Forces. So Mechs, the current most important unit for Arborec in my opinion, are out. Its also not a move, but a "remove and place". This last thing is actually good, as it stops some interactions that could be a problem. For example if you move infantry from planet to planet, there would be a question of the "commit" step as the Sardakk Commander does. A remove and place is clearer and leaves less rules questions open for debate.
Then there is the question of timing. In this case its "End of status phase", so after you scored and revealed objectives. Funnily enough Aborec also has the Mitosis ability that triggers "at the start of status phase". This is kinda inconvenient, as you have to remember to do something before scoring and then after revealing. You will forget it a few times. Also in general status phase is always a weird time to trigger an ability and some other abilities that used this window (Like Wormhole Generator) have gotten an Omega that changed the timing.
So what to do with this? You can move Infantry around, after objectives got revealed. The obvious possibility to capitalize on this ability is to place your Infantry in a way that either protects the assets you need to score next round or to place them in a way for a potential offensive to take those assets. This is a pretty good way to use Bioplasmosis. You will always have those extra Infantry for an invasion. But the offensive ground force in PoK is almost always the Mech and you cannot move those around. It also won't help if your fleet is not in position. And finally it will telegraph your moves quiet heavily if you suddenly amass a big number of Infantry next to potentially scoring system. Another way to use Bioplasmosis is to secure planets you took and move off from. Thats pretty straight forward. You build Infantry and then move them on undefended planets in the status phase. Nothing big here, just a convenient way to move your Infantry around.
Anything else thats worth mentioning?
Yes, Bioplasmosis sits in the G Branch at the same spot as Hypermetabolism. Thats also bad. The G -Branch, in my opinion, is the least worthwhile branch currently, except for some faction techs and Bioplasmosis is not one of them. Even if the Arborec wants to go Letani (Thats another Article) its more worthwhile to go AIDev and then use a G skip to reach it. And foregoing Hypermetabolism for Bioplasmosis? Only if its already round 4+ when Hypers value drops off and only if there some movements I can do to score round 5 solidly. But thats something I cannot plan for round 1 and 2. But there is the two faction techs Secret so, at least thats something. One other thing to note is the ability to leave planets undefended for selling them. This is actually something interesting. It is often a bit difficult to sell multiple planets in a single round, for example for "3/5 Tech Skips". Arborec can just make the deal in the Status Phase (non-binding of course, as no transactions are allowed in Status Phase) and conserve their Infantry easily that way.
Whats the positive?
Infantry is important for Arborec and moving those around is inherently good. It can lead to some surprisingly big builds or invasions. Planets can be defended easily after being left, something many factions struggle with. Another way this movement can help is by "branching out" from heavy production systems, systematically moving Infantry outwards and keeping the front line well supplied.
Most factions will run out of steam after a few planets. And while Arborec could just build more Infantry via their Letani after a conquest, Bioplasmosis may help use this Production value for more ships instead, supplying the Infantry via Status Phase movement.
Supplying the front
Is there something else I could use instead?
Yes, and you probably already thought about it as you read the title.
Transit Diodes 2Y
You may exhaust this card at the start of your turn during the action phase; remove up to 4 of your ground forces from the game board and place them on 1 or more planets you control.
How to say it? All the things Bioplasmosis does wrong, Transit Diodes does right. It can move Mechs, it can move Ground Forces over any distance, it does not signal what you are about to do, but it can only move 4 Ground Forces. But how often will you use Bioplasmosis to use 5+ Ground Forces? The answer quiet often, but only to close the gaps you created by moving other Ground Forces.
In addition Biostims can increase this number to 8 models if you have access. And finally the Y-Branch is one, that Arborec has a good reason to at least dip their toe (twigs?) into. Sarween Tool is one of two options for early game Arborec Techs that really pay dividends (The other being Self-Assembly Routine). Then either a Y-skip or another Y-Tech (Scanlink as well as Predictive are solid options) and Transit is in reach, faster then Bioplasmosis would. (If we assume Sarween is researched anyway)
So what is left? What can I do with Bioplasmosis?
First and not least: You can score two faction techs. Thats a good reason to go for Bioplasmosis. Not a good reason, but still. It can also assist last round pushes/defenses, where you research Bioplasmosis for the sole of reinforcing your Homesystem or important planets. The problem here is as noted above: Transit does the same, better and more convenient. So my final verdict for Bioplasmosis: Needs an Omega. Dane!
And thats it for today, I hope you enjoyed the reading and I hope for some interesting discussion. Did you use Bioplasmosis to good effect? Are you a believer in this tech? Let me know.
